As the numbers get whittled down inevitably favoured characters will be killed off some the viewer will have grown to care about while others will be seen as getting what they deserved either way this is not a happy series it is a tragedy that gets darker as time goes on leading to a poignant final confrontation. The differing powers the fighters possess make the battles interesting as we learn what method each will use and how it will be countered. The matter is complicated by the fact that two members of the rival clans Oboro Iga and Gennosuke Kouga are in love that won't stop them fighting for their clans but fighting each other may prove more difficult. These aren't ordinary man and women they each have powers that make them hard to defeat. Then the treaty is ended and each tribe selects ten ninjas who will fight until the other side is eliminated. They are both amazing anime's and if you haven't seen them I highly recommend them.In feudal Japan the Iga and Kouga tribes have hated each other for four hundred years only a treaty forcing them not to fight prevents them from going to war. My brother owns them both I however do not T_T. Whats a little tragedy right? If you haven't seen them I suggest you give them both a try.Īs for Basilisk I pretty much had the same reaction. He said, "I hate this f******g anime! Why did you get if for me? You should have bought me something else." I was kinda expecting this because my youngest brother said (almost) the exact same thing. Once I finished them he watched them and his reaction was priceless.
I ended up taking them home to watch them myself (am I a loving sister taking my bros gift before he had a chance to watch them? I know you don't have to say it). I had bought the Samurai 7 box set for my brother (christmas gift). Some of my favorite characters died even though I already suspected they would but come on. I mean I don't want to spoil it for anyone else but the end was so.upsetting. I finished Samurai 7 and I was seriously upset. It's the true show for eyes lovers, and if you consider yourself one, you don't want to miss this. And their eyes are even more diverse than Basilisk's! They have more properties, they can be fused and change over time, they can even be PASSED DOWN BY IMPLANTS. As such, for you, fellow eye conoisseurs, you'll be happy to know that NARUTO features not only ninjas, but also NINJAS WITH SPECIAL EYES. Gennosuke's may kill anyone who looks straight at him, whereas Oboro's can cancel any other form of ninjutsu. Both clan leaders have special eyes that have unique capabilities. BUT THAT'S NOT ALL!īasilisk fans know that EYES are a very important part of this show's story. In NARUTO, the world also has secret villages populated by ninjas that have all sorts of weird abilities, and who are destined to fight each other.
It's this somewhat unknown gig called NARUTO. So, you liked the tragic tale of Oboro and Gennosuke and you're looking for more epic ninja action? Don't worry! I've got just the show for you. Also: the big bad in both anime just happens to be an evil immortal guy that doesn't die when he's killed. In Ninja Scroll the heroine kills any man she kisses/sexy time with (which is a power a character in Basilisk also has, though not the main love interest) since her body is poison, which is a wee bit of problem when she spends the film bonding with its male lead! In Basilisk it's in the form of a Romeo & Juliet forbidden love between warring ninja clans. Kawajiri added his own story and distinctive style to Ninja Scroll but, since both anime are centered around fights where ninja use very similar / often the same supernatural skills, it's easy to mix them up.Īs an example, doomed love is the key theme in both.
The similarities between Basilisk and Ninja Scroll, which are so obvious in terms of the ninja superpowers that one could almost argue plagiarism, are down to Ninja Scroll being a homage by its director/creator (Kawajiri) towards 'The Kouga Ninja Scrolls'-the novel that Basilisk would later adapt.
